Beximco Pharma’s Nadolol tablets gets approval from US FDA

Beximco Pharmaceuticals Limited received US Food and Drug Administration approval for their Nadolol tablets - 20mg, 40mg and 80m), which are generic equivalent of Bristol-Myers Squibb’s Corgard tablets, for treating high blood pressure and chest pain. This is Beximco Pharma’s fifth Abbreviated New Drug Application approved for the US market since the Company’s oral solid dosage facility was approved by the US FDA in June 2015.

Practicality for social business, says Muhammad Yunus

Practical ideas are key while funding is not an issue for anyone aspiring to start up a social business, Nobel Peace laureate Muhammad Yunus said.

"First is to identify the social issue, seek solutions and then bring business ideas to solve the issue," said Yunus, who founded Grameen Bank to lend money to the poor worldwide. While a conventional business is about maximising profits and not caring for other people's well-being, a social business takes the opposite approach by stressing social objectives, such as alleviating poverty and unemployment, preserving the environment and advancing education, he said.

Yunus delivered this message in a keynote address at the Social Business Symposium hosted by the Asian Institute of Technology, the Yunus Centre at AIT (Asian Institute of Technology) and the Thai Health Promotion Foundation. Link


Bangladeshis Have Had Enough of Hartals

Bangladesh’s business community is getting sick of the “hartal,” or general strike, that has crippled the country’s economy in recent decades and now is back.

The opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party is calling for a shutdown of businesses to protest the disappearance last month of one of its senior party members in mysterious circumstances. BNP officials say they believe the Awami League-led government was involved in the abduction – a charge the government denies – and says it will call for a hartal until the party member returns safely. Mr. Pascal Lamy, Director General of the World Trade Organization (WTO) recently visited the state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities of Beximco Pharmaceuticals Ltd. located at Tongi in Gazipur.
